The Montgomery Ruritan Club sponsored the first Turkey Trot in September of 1972. The original plan was to have the Festival in the Fall of the year and have it hosted on a rotating basis by various organizations in different towns around Daviess County. However, it did not take long to realize that a permanent organization was necessary to keep the Festival going on an annual basis. The Montgomery Campground and Park Facility along with the continuing organization of the Montgomery Ruritan Club seemed to be the answer. The Daviess County Chamber Of Commerce led by Ron Myers hatched the original idea of a Turkey Trot to help draw attention to the thousands of Turkeys raised here in Daviess County. The Festival has been held each year in September since 1972 and have included turkey races, exhibits, tractor pulls, horse pulls, live entertainment, carnival rides and many other attractions.
